The novelty includes eight cores:
- high-performance Cortex-X3 with a frequency of 3.2 GHz;
- two medium-sized Cortex-A715 with a frequency of 2.8 GHz;
- two productive Cortex- A710 with a frequency of 2.8 GHz;
- Three energy-efficient Cortex-A510S with a frequency of 2 GHz.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 built on the 4-nm process of TSMC. The volume of cache l3 is 8 Mb.
The developers equipped the chip with an updated Qualcomm Ai Engine engine and a modernized Hexagon neuroprocessor. According to the company, in the AI-Zadachas Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 by 4.35 times faster than its predecessor, and a potential increase in performance for each watt of the spent power is 60%.
Qualcomm claims that the processor can process machine learning algorithms to recognize objects or translation and transcription of colloquial speech “on the fly” directly on the device.
The developers paid a lot of attention to the functions of the camera. According to them, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 can automatically improve photos and videos in real time using semantic segmentation.
The processor works with sensors up to 200 megapixels, a codec, and can also play a video in 8K HDR at a speed of up to 60 frames per second.
In addition, the chipset supports the trace of rays in games, 5G networks and Wi-Fi 7.
The first smartphones based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are expected at the end of 2022. The company has already announced that it is working with partners like Motorola, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Sony.
Recall that in October Google presented Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. Both new items are equipped with Tensor G2 tensor processor and support a number of AI functions.
In September, Apple released the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max based on the A16 Bionic branded chip with a built -in neuroscorin.
